Update: October 24, 2006
Please note that, for reasons I may outline later, I will be voting a (more or less) straight Democratic ticket for the mid-term election this year.  No, I haven't changed my mind about any of the philosophic issues involved - for all those same reasons (and more), it is important in Michigan, and probably most or all other states in America, to vote against the Republicans this year.  Note also that this will probably not apply to the 2008 election.  --- Robert Nasir

"Given the dangers of Bush's policies--including his religious agenda--why should we want him as president? Precisely because the worst elements of his agenda contradict the best, making him easier to fight--and less damaging--than a candidate with a more consistently destructive agenda."

--- Robert W. Tracinski, TIA Daily

AntiBushForBush.com is a website of links and other information about the issues behind the November 2004 presidential election -- and why I (Robert C. Nasir) have chosen to be an Anti-Bushite for Bush.

What is an Anti-Bushite For Bush?  Are you one, too?

Click here for information on Robert W. Tracinski's original article, How to Be an Anti-Bushite for Bush (Sep 10, 2004, TIA Daily).  A slightly longer excerpt is posted at Capitalism Magazine.

If you haven't yet subscribed to the daily news digest supplement to The Intellectual Activist, TIA Daily, now's the time!  TIA Daily's homepage is here.

The insightful editorial cartoons found in TIA are produced by Cox & Forkum.

The expression "Anti-Bushite for Bush" comes from a quote from Ayn Rand, referenced by Stephen Speicher in a post the The Harry Binswanger List (a moderated, subscription based  mailing list - details at HBList.com) on 8/30/2004.  Speicher quotes Miss Rand:

"I am not an admirer of President Nixon, as my readers know. But I urge every able-minded voter, of any race, creed, color, age, sex, or political party, to vote for Nixon as a matter of national emergency. This is no longer an issue of choosing the lesser of two commensurate evils. The choice is between a flawed candidate representing Western civilization and the perfect candidate of its primordial enemies.

"If there were some campaign organization called 'Anti-Nixonites for Nixon,' it would name my position." ("The Ayn Rand Letter," August 28, 1972.)

(Note: I'm not presumptuous enough to guess how Ayn Rand would've handled this years' election!)

To understand both sides of this issue, you've got to know the ways in which the current president is truly dangerous.  If we're going to vote for George W. Bush in November, why are Anti-Bushites for Bush anti-bush?  Visit Peikoff.com and Dr. Leonard Peikoff will make it clear why he's voting for John Kerry.

Also, the article by Dr. John Lewis to which Leonard Peikoff refers, "The Threat of a Faith-Based Defense of America," is available at The Center For The Moral Defense Of Capitalism and at Capitalism Magazine.  Dr. Lewis' home page, including his "Chronology of Islamic Fundamentalist Attacks against the West (May, 2004)", can be found here.

And if you're quick to dismiss George Bush's faith as no stronger than other presidents', consider watching Frontline's "The Jesus Factor" online at PBS.org.  The Force is strong with this one.

Outstanding discussion & analysis of current events, including the presidential election, is going on at The Harry Binswanger List.  Highly recommended.

On Dr. Binswanger's mailing list, there's a lot of folks who've determined that a vote for Bush is critical at this time, with most pointing out the difference between Bush & Kerry on terrorism.  I agree.

Bush voters do acknowledge the danger that Bush represents.  None the less, if the only other option is John Kerry, choosing Bush in the election booth, and fighting him intellectually by all means possible (before & afterwards), seems the reasonable choice.

Tough call, as the folks voting against Bush rightly argue that the list of Bush failings, as against the proper role of the commander-in-chief, is so great that letting him remain in office will cause real harm to our liberty and safety.  (As an anti-Bushite, I must agree, but find there's no better choice.)

There are too many good arguments on the HBL to even sum up briefly.  If you're not subscribed yet, what are you waiting for?

(FYI, as of September, 2004, Dr. Binswanger hadn't yet made his voting decision.)

Worth reading: Dr. Michael J. Hurd sounds like an Anti-Bushite for Bush.  And if you're wondering, why not vote Libertarian instead, you haven't been following what the Libertarians are up to these days.  But Dr. Hurd has.
